Who do you hope to see in heaven?
Your spouse? Your kids? Your friends? Your pets?
I understand the sentiment and the desire to see loved ones who left you long ago, but, if your hope in getting to heaven is to see anyone other than Jesus, you're missing the point!
It's perplexing to me that this is the view so many have of heaven. It's also disheartening and revealing. It reveals the reality that all too many don't actually know the Jesus they will meet face to face when they die.
The only thing that will matter in eternity is Jesus. You will not stand before him only trying to glimpse beyond his shoulder in order to see your grandfather. Your eyes will be fixed on him alone and it will be an experience of sheer terror or joy.
Listen to the Apostle Paul:
If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. (Philippians 1:22-23, emphasis mine)
Paul's anticipation in leaving this earth was not to see the people he was once so close to. He wanted to be with Jesus.
How about you? Are you looking forward to meeting Jesus?
